So the pretravel is defined by the length of the little stick coming out of the bottom of the switch engaging the light sensor. None of the tactile switches are supposed to make a "click" sound though. The only noise they should make, is when bottoming out / springing up. That's consistent with my brown experience.

Mechanical Switch Comparison (Sound Only) After many requests, here is a comparison between blue, red, and brown Cherry MX mechanical keyboard switches.
Surprisingly, the red switches feel a bit heavier than brown. But what really bothers me is that the reds register the keys way too early before bottoming out. So I did the mod for v1 brown switches (removed the small spring), and it got better. I now find the reds equally as good as the browns. 14.
